a long can lose at most its notional, because the tokens milo bought cannot be worth less than nothing. a short can lose at most its collateral, because the book locks quote equal to the notional at open and settles only against that. when a short's open loss reaches ninety percent of collateral the book closes it on the next round with reason loss cap, so the last ten percent is a buffer for the price moving between the check and the close.
